It is not really a negative word. Many frieds use it when they talk to each other, or parents use it when they address their children. "mano begu" means "how was I off the main topic?!!".

You should have provided more context. This is not really clear. Anyway "pedar sookhteh" literally means someone whose father is burnt. "mano begu" means "how was I thinking?!!!"
